Join me on a journey into the calm inducing clayart zeniverse
Zen is a term that encapsulates a feeling of peace, oneness, and enlightenment. It also describes a form of Buddhism in which meditation is used to remain present and non-judgmental. Zen is practiced diligently over a lifetime using a state of meditative calm in which one uses direct, intuitive insights as a way of thinking and acting.
Zen is such a potent, appealing aesthetic, even modest contemplation arouses its presence. In times of chaos and upheaval the ocillations tend to be more extreme but the centre remains unmoved and stable.
Simple, gentle, grounded designs with graceful lines reflect the calmness of the centre and reinforce its endless appeal. Curves allude to circles which ultimately go on to surround a centre. Since time immerorial spun pottery has been a promoter and saviour of the curve and was born from a creative circlular motion.
Zen is the Japanese pronunciation of a Chinese word, ch’an, which comes from a Sanskrit root meaning “thought,” “absorption,” or “meditation.” And contemplation is at the heart of Zen, along with an emphasis on self-control and insight.
Its heartening to witness the sublime attributes of this traditionsl design being widely appreciated.
